My mixed media collages and sculptures are an organic and spontaneous layering of wood, paper, metal and various other objects. The Japanese aesthetic of Wabi Sabi, “the perfection of imperfection,” encompasses much of my own ideas about what makes a piece of art meaningful, therefore beautiful. My pieces are the result of experimenting with materials by painting, dying, carving, deconstructing and reconstructing. Recycling or breathing new life into found objects also feeds my creative flow.
As the daughter of a prominent art dealer in Sarasota, Florida, I grew up surrounded by art—when the walls of my family home were full, artwork leaned against the walls stacked on the floor. I am eternally grateful for my art dealer/collector father, the late Allyn Gallup, whose obsessive enthusiasm and commitment to the art world impacted more lives than he could have ever imagined.
